A reminder that material return at RCGS begins today noon. We will be open at the Riley meal location for material pick up/drop off until 6:30 today. We will be open from 8:00-4:00 on Thursday and Friday. We have received all class pictures some school store prizes and Middle School Awards packets for parents/students to pick up as they return materials. If you need to make alternate plans for material return please contact the Grade School office.
Riley County Grade School has begun to make plans for the end of the school year. We are asking that all school owned materials (computers, textbooks, library books, combination locks, uniforms, etc.) be returned to Riley County Grade School beginning at noon on May 20th. They may also be returned on May 21st or 22nd from 8:00 – 4:00. At that time students will receive class and individual pictures, School Store fundraiser prizes, yearbooks (if they’ve been delivered by then) and awards. This drop off/ Pick up will not occur in the building. We will bring materials out to you and retrieve school owned materials outside of the front doors in the slab area around the flagpole. We ask that if you see others being served that you observe social distancing by standing six feet away or stay in your vehicle and wait for your turn. If you are unable to make these dates or times work please contact the office to make alternate arrangements. At this time we are not allowed to have any type of recognition for eighth grade Promotion. Student recognition and distribution of diplomas will be addressed in a separate email to eighth grade parents.

At approximately 3:00 pm on Thursday we will load the district buses and they will begin making their regular stops along their routes to deliver personal belongings and requested technology to the grade school students and HALL LOCKER items and technology to Jr/Sr high school students. The intent to have drivers run the route as closely to their regular time as possible. We are asking that students and/or parents be prepared to meet at the bus stop to collect their items. The driver will stop and a staff member will hand out the bag. Anyone who cannot be available at this time will have their belongings returned to the school for a Friday pickup. Grade school staff will be available at the grade school on Thursday from 3:30 to 5:00 pm and on Friday from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm for anyone who does not regularly ride a bus and walkers. Please notify the office on Friday prior to arriving to expedite the process. Please ring the bell and we will bring your items to the door. Please contact the office if you need to make other arrangements. Potential items included in the student bag are personal items, medications, IPad, or Chrome.

The RCGS School Carnival scheduled for April 4th has been Canceled. We are looking at rescheduling it for Fall or early Spring of the2020/21 School Year. Money and donations that have been sent for class baskets will be refunded upon our return to school. All other monetary and donated items will be stored and used for the future carnival date.

As of this morning, we still have not had a Golden Ticket winner. One student at Riley County Grade School has the winning ticket, they just haven't entered it yet. Riley Co. Forensics attended their first tournament of the season at Republic Co. on January 25, 2020. All members attending the tournament medaled. Hannah Trechter placed 2nd in Original Oration, qualifying for state; Hannah Trechter and Trynity McCoy won the 1st place medal in Impromptu Duet Acting, qualifying for state; Ethan Shanahan earned the 6th place medal in Extemporaneous Speaking and Camden Bartlett placed 2nd in Extemporaneous Speaking, also qualifying for state. It was a great first tournament; congratulations to all!

What an awesome concert last night. Our students performed at a high level! Thank you Mrs Seidler and Mrs Lloyd for all your efforts and talent. Thank you also to Dr Milt Allen, Dr Carl Rowles, and Mr Steve Lueth from Kansas Wesleyan for assisting our students with our concert. Also, the alumni and friends choir was a great way to finish the evening.
A reception was held Monday evening prior to the Board of Education meeting to honor the board’s out-going members Jared Larson and Randy O’Boyle. The USD 378 Riley County Schools District wants to thank Jared and Randy for the dedication and service they have given to the education and development of our students and the commitment to the staff at USD 378.

Riley County 3rd Graders had a visit from Deb, Brandon, and Logan the dog, from T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter. They shared what services they provide for the community and what their jobs were like. Logan was a well behaved guest who loved to be pet. In return, our 3rd graders made 70 dog toys from recycled t-shirts to donate.

We are excited to announce that our RCHS choir has been selected to perform at the Crown Center Shops in Kansas City during the holiday season! They will perform on Tuesday, December 3 at 7:15 pm with the performance lasting approximately 30 minutes. Cost is free and it is open to the public! Go Falcons!

Health & education advocates say they are close to unveiling state legislation that would increase the minimum age in Kansas to purchase tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, from 18 to 21.Similar laws (called Tobacco 21) have been passed in 18 states & Washington D.C.

Students went through modules on teamwork, professionalism, problem solving, communication, networking, and attitude as they relate to employability.
Brandy Berg from KSU extension office came to 1C to present Clean Hands. Students were read a book about germs, given special lotion that stuck to their germs, then saw ALL the germs that were on their hands by putting their hands under a special light. Then they washed their hands, following the directions (scrubbing for 20 seconds). They got to use the special light again to see how many germs they got rid of... And how many they didn't!

Kansas law requires all vehicles used for student transportation pass an annual safety inspection by a qualified mechanic and the highway patrol. I am glad to report that all 15 buses, five vans, four Suburban’s, and two automobiles completed and passed inspection for the 2019-2020 school year. Safety is at the forefront of student transportation and we are grateful for a team that worked hard to see this goal accomplished.

From Mrs. Garver's 3rd Grade Class: Fred the gummy worm has been swimming all summer. The last time he swam before school started he forgot his life saver. Students' job is to work as a TEAM to get the life saver around Fred. Then get him to his boat with his oar on the boat. But wait! You can only use a paper clip, not unfolded and you cannot poke the gummies or touch them. 😉
Jamboree Update from Clay Center: Due to the forecast of rain, the Jamboree will be moved to the JH Football Field located at 12th & Prospect. This is directly east of CCCHS up on the hill. Seating is limited, so please bring a lawn chair & sit around the track. Parents can park in the softball parking lot directly across the street to the north of the field, up along 12th street, or in our middle school parking lot.
Walk-in Enrollment: August 1st from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at both RCGS and RCHS. Families may enroll at either school when they have children attending both schools.
Online Enrollment is open. Watch for two "No Reply" emails. One with instructions on how to enroll your students online and another with instructions on how to apply for free and reduced meals online. If you have questions or need help please contact one of the offices.
