Congratulations to two RCHS students for their selection to the 1234A All-State Honor Band! Juniors, BreAnn Miesner (Clarinet) and Brandon Moots (Horn) were recognized for this tremendous honor. To be eligible, students first audition against all students 1-6A in the North Central District, then re-audition against all 1234A students in the state. Our state conference is virtual this year, which means these two will be attending several Zoom rehearsals to learn music and how to record to a click track. Then they will create a virtual ensemble with all of the All-State members. Thank you to Mrs. Lloyd for her well established program, and helping contribute to their recognition! Congratulations again BreAnn and Brandon! Go Falcons!

Staff of the Quarter: This RCHS student led and selected award polled our student body to reveal their inaugural recipient, Mr. Hartenbower! Mr. Hartenbower is a long time resident of Riley County and is in his 1st year of teaching. He has brought a wealth full of knowledge, craftsmanship, and expertise to our Industrial Technology department. Mr. Hartenbower received nearly 20% of the votes to win the first ever awarded “Staff of the Quarter”. Student Council representative Arlie Headley (9th Grade) and sponsor Mrs. Harmison, along with Payton Baker (12th Grade) and our Student Advisory Committee pioneered this award. Arlie did a tremendous job taking the lead on this entire recognition. We couldn’t be happier with the students leadership and enthusiasm to recognize our staff! Pictured with Mr. Hartenbower are his seminar students and Arlie. Congratulations Mr. Hartenbower!

Our newest bus arrived in August. Over $22.000 of its purchase was paid for by a grant from the state of Kansas. It is out of an EPA fund to replace older diesel engines with cleaner burning ones. This is our third gasoline powered bus. These buses save the district in maintenance and repair cost. One of the requirements of the grant was the destruction and scrapping of the old bus. This was done by McDonald Salvage. The students and driver enjoy the new bus.

Kansas law requires all vehicles used for student transportation pass an annual safety inspection by a qualified mechanic and the highway patrol. I am glad to report that all 15 buses, five vans, four Suburban’s, and two automobiles completed and passed inspection for the 2019-2020 school year. Safety is at the forefront of student transportation and we are grateful for a team that worked hard to see this goal accomplished.
Good Luck to our Riley County High School Volleyball teams as we travel to Wabaunsee High School tonight to take on the Chargers and the Chapman Fighting Irish. Go Falcons!
From Mrs. Garver's 3rd Grade Class: Fred the gummy worm has been swimming all summer. The last time he swam before school started he forgot his life saver. Students' job is to work as a TEAM to get the life saver around Fred. Then get him to his boat with his oar on the boat. But wait! You can only use a paper clip, not unfolded and you cannot poke the gummies or touch them. 😉
